Pond complete first fully biobased and biodegradable particleboard!
Did you know that 300.000 cubic meters of particleboards are produced every single day?! That corresponds to 3500 football pitches covered with particleboards.
Particleboards have been regular components in the construction and furniture industry since it’s invention and commercial introduction in Germany during the Second World War. Particleboard is cheaper, denser and more uniform than conventional wood and plywood.
Particleboards or chipboards are manufactured by mixing wood particles or flakes together with a resin and forming the mixture into a sheet. Usually particleboards are made of mixed woodfibers and crude oil based resin, to bind together the woodfibers.
Ponders Thomas and Martin have been to Germany to visit Siempelkamp and made the first ever Pond bio based and biodegradable particleboard! This is our biggest accomplishment at Pond to date. We are over the moon, as it is tested and made according to the MDF-norm. The test actually shows that the pond particleboard is 70% stiffer then the industry standard. Our new product has the potential to be a real game changer and impact the global market.
Our new particleboard is to our knowledge the world´s first ever fully bio based and biodegradable particleboard. We hope and believe, it will not be long before consumers can start to buy this sustainable alternative.
